Japan, early 19th century

Natural lacquered wood decorated in gold and silver usuniku takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, okibirame, tsukegaki and nashiji. The decoration on the lid shows a fence with chrysanthemum flower motifs, behind which is a garden with pine and wisteria trees.
